Visitors :)

New York/Reno. . . .

Of all our 'visitors' this was a first.  The first to want to give Roger money for just doing what we do best.  And a first of coming back the next day with a thank you.  It has actually been a while since we have had any 'visitors'.  So long that when Roger popped in the front door and said. . . "Guess What? We have visitors."  I wasn't even sure who it was.  Didn't even cross my mind it could be travelers.  They had just moved from New York City to Reno.  This trip was driving a little two seater sports car to their new home.  And the radiator blew.  They asked for help to get it towed back to Hays.  Of course they wouldn't know that they would probably get better service going thru a shop in our little town.  Roger called and they came.  The car was fixed and they were back on the road by 11:15 am Friday morning.  After they were said and gone I told Roger I need to start taking pictures of all our 'visitors'.  It could make a great scrapbook to look back on.  :-)

Sometimes I wonder.... do people really read this?  Do they believe me?  I mean, sometimes my stories even seem to amaze me.  Can all of this really happen?  Well..... it does!  No... they didn't show up at my front door.   No I didn't meet them, BUT I did see them in the Wal-Mart parking lot this afternoon in little old Hays Kansas.  I did have to ask Jessica if she knew who they were.  And I did have their name kind of mixed up.  Jessica & Michele don't listen to this kind of music.  Gabe does.  Papa Roach...... what a name of a band!!  Way to wild for me!! :-)  Someday I need to start an autograph book!! What memories I'd have!

A man is in custody Monday after leading Topeka police and Kansas Highway Patrol officers on an hour-long foot chase in southwest Topeka.
Officers got a call about a suspicious car in the 3400 block of S.W. Gage Boulevard, said Topeka Police Sgt. Kelly Roberts.
“He was sitting in a car in someone’s driveway when officers approached,” Kelly said.
Roberts said officers asked the man to turn off the vehicle and step out. As officers prepared to search him, he took off on foot.
Kansas Highway Patrol helicopter and K-9 units were dispatched.
After an hour, the man was apprehended by a K-9 unit in the 3500 block of S.W. Mission.
The man was transported by an American Medical Response ambulance to a local hospital.
Kelly said the investigation is ongoing, and officers don’t know why the man ran from authorities.

Story of my life........ this kind of stuff just seems to find the Ummels. That is right in front of Jessica and Michele's duplex. Jessica was at work. Michele heard the hollering.... "I've got you covered!" As Michele left for work, this guy was laying in the driveway with 6 Topeka Police cars surrounding. As she walked to her car, she asked what happened. But of course they couldn't tell her. The news crew asked her what happened.......

Speak nO EngLiSH!

I tell you what...... We have lived in this house almost 3 years. And TWICE have I had to call the Sheriff!.....743-5721.....YEP!!! AGAIN!!!

Tonight a "gentlemen" showed up at our house. Couldn't speak English. All Roger could understand was this guy putting his fingers to his ear. He wanted to come into the house and use our phone....NO WAY! So I AGaiN..... called the Sheriff. The only good thing is that we sure do have a fast response. We live just about 7 miles from WaKeeney and he was here tonight in about 5 minutes. When the Sheriff tried to talk to this guy, all he could understand was Atlanta. Guess he is going somewhere....... :-)

I'm starting to get the idea that this is NOT the home I want to retire in.........

Memories.......

Ever had "one of those days"?? It seems to me that my family just seems to draw that right to them! I have always said that I have a sign on my forehead that says...... nice lady.

When we moved to WaKeeney, we thought it was a great way to introduce the girls to the "real" world. The very first week we were there I ran to the quik shop for ice. Had to lay on the floor as the Highway Patrol had some Mexicans surrounded in the parking lot with rifles. When I got home my family asked what took so long. I told them my story.... they laughed! Until they realized it was true. The girls also got to see quite frequently drugs in bags on the side of the road. Jessica was a Junior in High School and Michele was an 8th grader when they both ended up on a hit list by a gang in WaKeeney. Yes.... a gang in WaKeeney! They apparently were too smart and too good at sports. We knew about Jessica being on it at the time, but did not learn about Michele till later. Talk about scary!
Maybe this all prepared the girls for when they left for college. While in college, one of Jessica's roommates had a stalker. A year later.... Jessica had a stalker. SCARY! She has also witnessed a gang member breaking another gang members windshield. She had thought about just walking away and pretending she didn't see it, but the guy was looking her straight in the eye as he did it. Good thing the security on site was home at the time, as that is where she went straight too. Even this last week she had to call 911 as she has been acting Manager at a property and someone killed themselves.

Last year Michele had to call 911 too as a guy, who was drunk, passed out in her front yard and hit his head. Her roommates didn't know what to do. They just wanted to leave him and see if he was still there in the morning. Good thing Michele was thinking. Called 911. After all.... had to make sure he wasn't dead. And she WASN'T going out there to see herself!
We moved to our current house on Mother's Day 2006. Since then we have had to call the police 3 times. Twice having Mexicans on foot. One at our door wanting to use our telephono. And once for a couple whom were making out in my driveway.... YES my driveway.
....................... Yesterday was the third...........
A gentlemen whom had skulls on his shirt and spikes coming out of his earlobes knocked on my door. His band was on their way to Denver for a gig and their van had broke down on the "freeway". Was my husband home? Thank goodness he was! To make a long story short it all did work out all okay. Even if it freaked me at first and we did call the local police. Better safe than sorry! Pretty sad when you call and say your name.... and they laugh before you can even tell them what is wrong. Guess at least I know that if something happens and all I can say is my name.... they will know right away where I live. The 7 band members were all VERY nice! And polite! And as Roger says, very interesting. As they were all wearing black. Black tops. Black shorts. Black skinny jeans. And all of their hair was black and blond. SPIKES. MOHAWKS. OH MY! Not till after they left we found out the name of their band. The Virgin Whores..... OH MY!
