Happy Birthday.......

This year Roger turned 49. Wow! I always said that I will never be as old as my parents. Well.... we are there. Where has the time went???  I surprised Roger by facebooking and texting all our friends and family (and if I missed you, SORRY!! I guess I don't have your number.)  All I asked was for everyone to text Roger and say "Happy Birthday".  Shortly after I sent out the first message, Roger was already calling me to ask what I did. He sounded gruff, but you could hear the smile in his voice. Even after he got home from work his phone was still dinging. And every time there was a BIG smile on his face. It was a good day!!

snow........

Can you believe it?? We got snowed in!!!! Yes! Santa Claus can come now. Yesterday afternoon it started snowing. And when it did, it snowed big time. Over night we ended up with about a foot of snow. Then on Thursday, we are suppose to get 1-3 more inches. We'll have to keep an eye on that one as Mishi will be heading west that evening. Jessica will be following around noon on Friday. Soooooo excited to see my girls!!

Saturday afternoon Roger and I went to Mom and Dad's for Christmas. Mike, Jenny, Taylor, Haylee, Courtney and Cody were there also. Unwrapping presents...... and eating..... isn't that what it's about??

Tomorrow...... back to the real world.

Fibromyalgia. . . . did you know??. . . . .

Fibromyalgia is a chronic pain state in which the nerve stimuli causing pain originates mainly in the muscle.  Many people who have fibromyalgia also have tension headaches, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, irritable bowel syndrome, anxiety and depression.

Chronic widespread body pain is the primary symptom of fibromyalgia. Both men and women with fibromyalgia often experience moderate to extreme fatigue, sleep disturbances, sensitivity to touch, light, and sound, and cognitive difficulties. Many individuals also experience a number of other symptoms and overlapping conditions, such as irritable bowel syndrome, lupus and arthritis.

  • Pain
The pain of fibromyalgia is profound, chronic and widespread. It can migrate to all parts of the body and vary in intensity. FM pain has been described as stabbing and shooting pain and deep muscular aching, throbbing, and twitching. Neurological complaints such as numbness, tingling, and burning are often present and add to the discomfort of the patient. The severity of the pain and stiffness is often worse in the morning. Aggravating factors that affect pain include cold/humid weather, non-restorative sleep, physical and mental fatigue, excessive physical activity, physical inactivity, anxiety and stress.
  • Fatigue
In today's world many people complain of fatigue; however, the fatigue of FM is much more than being tired after a particularly busy day or after a sleepless night. The fatigue of FM is an all-encompassing exhaustion that can interfere with occupational, personal, social or educational activities. Symptoms include profound exhaustion and poor stamina
  • Sleep problems
Many fibromyalgia patients have an associated sleep disorder that prevents them from getting deep, restful, restorative sleep. Medical researchers have documented specific and distinctive abnormalities in the Stage 4 deep sleep of FM patients. During sleep, individuals with FM are constantly interrupted by bursts of awake-like brain activity, limiting the amount of time they spend in deep sleep.
  • Other signs, symptoms, and overlapping conditions
Additional symptoms may include: irritable bowel and bladder, headaches and migraines, restless legs syndrome (periodic limb movement disorder), impaired memory and concentration, skin sensitivities and rashes, dry eyes and mouth, anxiety, depression, ringing in the ears, dizziness, vision problems, Raynaud's Syndrome, neurological symptoms, and impaired coordination.
It is quite common for patients with "well-established" rheumatic diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus, and Sjogren's syndrome, to have fibromyalgia also. It is important for these patients' doctors to realize they have such a combination of problems, as specific therapy for rheumatoid arthritis and lupus, etc. does not have any effect on FM symptoms. Patients with fibromyalgia do not become crippled with the condition, nor is there any evidence it affects their lifespan. Nevertheless, due to varying levels of pain and fatigue, there is an inevitable contraction of social, vocational, and avocational activities that leads to a reduced quality of life. As with many chronic diseases, the extent to which patients succumb to the various effects of pain and fatigue are dependent upon numerous factors, in particular their psycho-social support, financial status, childhood experiences, sense of humor, and determination to push on.

RA........did you know??........

Rheumatoid arthritis is a type of chronic arthritis that usually occurs in joints such as hands, knees and wrists. The joint pain typically occurs in both sides of the body, a key characteristic that helps distinguish rheumatoid arthritis from other types of arthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis begins when the immune system mistakes healthy tissue for a foreign substance and subsequently attacks itself, causing the joint lining to swell.

Key symptoms of arthritis include joint pain, swelling and stiffness. In rheumatoid arthritis, joint inflammation is the primary symptom. Wrists, feet, ankles and fingers are the most commonly affected. Rheumatoid arthritis can even affect the joint that is responsible for the tightening of our vocal cords to change the tone of our voice, the cricoarytenoid joint. When this joint is inflamed, it can cause hoarseness of the voice.

Early signs of rheumatoid arthritis:
  • Weakness
  • Widespread muscle aches
  • Fatigue
  • Loss of appetite
  • Morning stiffness
Eventually, joint pain will appear - symptoms of joint pain include:
  • Stiffness - reduced range of motion in the joints
  • Inflammation - redness and tenderness of the joints
  • Swelling - swollen, puffy area around the joint
Additional rheumatoid symptoms may also include:
  • Fever
  • Numbness or tingling
  • Swollen glands
  • Eye burning and/or itching
  • Lung inflammation
Rheumatoid arthritis also increases your risk of developing:
  • Osteoporosis. Rheumatoid arthritis itself, along with some medications used for rheumatoid arthritis, can increase your risk of osteoporosis — a condition that weakens your bones and makes them more prone to fracture.
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome. If rheumatoid arthritis affects your wrists, the inflammation can compress the nerve that serves most of your hand and fingers.
  • Heart problems. Rheumatoid arthritis can increase your risk of hardened and blocked arteries, as well as inflammation of the sac that encloses your heart.
  • Lung disease. People with rheumatoid arthritis have an increased risk of inflammation and scarring of the lung tissues, which can lead to progressive shortness of breath.
In general, arthritis involves the breakdown of cartilage, which usually protects the joint and allows for smooth movements. When cartilage breaks down, the bones are not protected so they rub together causing inflammation and stiffness. However, rheumatoid arthritis occurs when the immune system attacks joint linings.

United Way.......

Besides going to meetings, eating, sleeping and shopping, we did some volunteer time while I was in Topeka. Friday evening Jessica, Michele and I volunteered with the United Way. The evening was called "Party with a Purpose".  Jessica's office was the organizers of the event.  We each first donated $35.00. Then we were given envelopes that had money and information in it. (age, sizes, wants, etc....) We had one hour to go shopping. And boy oh boy was that hard. Jessica had a 5 year old little girl whose favorite thing is Hello Kitty. Easy. Michele had a teenage boy who likes K-State. Easy. Me.... I got an 8 year old boy who likes Sonic the Hedgehog. HELLO! Do you know how hard it is to find Sonic the Hedgehog??? Hard!

It sure makes you stop and think! Simple little things. The Mother of these kids also had a list of wants......... laundry detergent and cleaning supplies. Something that we take for granted. I do have to admit, it made us teary. I just can't imagine.

Soooooo......

The next time you wash your clothes..........
or clean your floors and toilet..........
say a prayer.........
and be thankful for everything you have.

And...... find some time...... to help others out. If not volunteering, just by opening the door for someone.

Make some one's day........ it will make you feel good.

Topeka. . . . . .

was a blast. I had meetings all day Thursday and until dinner on Friday. The meetings were a little boring, but my time with the girls was soooo much fun!  I left Wednesday.  Brenda (a friend.... and also my boss) rode to Topeka with me. As soon as we reached Topeka, we visited Mishi at work. Wow! What a building she works in! We did a little shopping and then Mishi took us downtown to see Jessica's new job place. Wow! Beautiful! Her office is in the balcony of an historic bank. Roger and I are just so VERY proud of our girls!

meetings during the day.......
shopping during the evening.....
eating when we had time.......
3 tired women.......
fun.... fun..... fun.......
but glad to be at home.

black friday..........

was CRAZY!!!!!! Me, Jessica, Michele, Courtney, Cody, Mom and Dad met up at Wal-Mart. Of course there were sooooo many people. That was to be expected. This year I was after the 40" tv's.  And I got them!!! When we got there, I went and got in line for the tv's. Then after Mom and Dad made it back, we put Mom in charge of waiting. Since she just had a knee replacement a month ago.... and her ankles are not the best..... we made sure she was in a wheelchair for the looonnnngggg wait. Then the rest of us split up to get what was on Jessica's list for 10pm. After that we then split up for the midnight sales. Mom was still in the frozen section waiting for the tv's.  Every now and then one of us would check up on her, and Courtney was even taking her magazines to read while waiting. I do have to say I came close to feeling scared about getting trampled. Things were pretty tight for a while. I say that people are CRAZY..... but then why am I there??  :-)  Once Michele went and got us pops. She had an extra.... and even sold it to someone waiting. Somebody ought to take that into thought next year. Make money instead of spending it. Even worse than trying to get our sales was trying to pay for them. The lines were just terrible! I'm thinking that we will skip out next year..... but we said that last year too. Guess we'll see. It WAS fun!

Thank you Mom, Dad, Courtney and Cody!!!!!!!!!  We couldn't have done it without you! Love you guys!!!!

early??

are you CRAZY?? That is the look that Jorge gave me this morning. I decided to get up and get going when Roger left for work. Which we all know is pretty early. And especially early for my day off. But I do have to say that I have gotten soooooo much done. One of the things I am working on today is taking my front door outside and painting the inside part of it. Primer..... base coat...... top coat and clear coat. A beautiful day!! I sure can handle the nice weather, but I know that winter has to be around the corner soon. Then last night Roger and I was working on the wall in my stairwell. I ran out of glue dots, so when I get more and get it finished..... I will post some pictures. Cool idea if I don't say so myself!!!

Happy Week!!!!!!

Wind is not blowing.........

and the sun is shining!! What a beautiful Sunday!

Yesterday the wind blew. And blew hard! We pretty well stayed in all day. Roger did some trimming on the front door. Me.... ummmmm...... :-) There is always tomorrow.

This last few weeks has kind of been a blur. Trying to get a few things done around here before winter sets in.  My Dad and Roger did get my doors all done. And Roger did get the front door all trimmed. Just have one more piece that I need to pick up and then it will be completely finished. And if I don't say so myself, looks pretty darn good. Now Roger needs to get going on my pantry. I can't wait for that. The one thing I don't have a lot of in my house is extra storage, so this is going to be great!

Last Wednesday I had a doctor appointment with my rheumatologist.  Good news is that we are making some headway. Bad news is that he does not think that my liver is filtering my meds correctly. So...... I have now put my big girl panties on and have learned how to give myself shots. And in my tummy no less. I was pretty worried the first time I stuck that needle in, but it turned out not really being that bad. I think I can do this. Especially if it makes things better.

Back to the beautiful day...... Jorge is sleeping on the back of the couch, Roger is working and I have spent part of the afternoon planting bulbs. My Dad gave me this cool bit that I can put in Roger's drill.... and zip zip..... drop the bulb in.... and cover it up. That's all! Can't wait to see what all comes up. Sooooo easy! Think I will be buying LOTS of bulbs next year. I have also made some chocolate chip cookies. Boy... will Roger be surprised!

beau......ti......ful.....

Wow..... Wasn't yesterday the most beautiful day??   What about the weekend??  And here it is the end of October.

The girls were home this weekend.  We had family pictures taken on Saturday afternoon.  I'm so excited to see them!!  They were taken outside.  Any more perfect for Roger?  Even he cooperated!  Hard to believe, but he did!  The rest of the time we worked on our front porch.  We have gotten so much done!  Yesterday, after the girls left... and Roger was at work, I painted my window trim.  Today I'm touching up the house color.  Just hope I don't blow away.  Sounds like the wind will be blowing hard, but need to get it done before they winter cold sets in.

Have a G.R.E.A.T week!!

got your drill??

Monday afternoon I had my tooth implant done.  And it really wasn't too bad.  Actually better than I thought. Having the tooth dug out was worse.  Basically he numbed the outside and then the inside.  Waited a few minutes for it to go numb.  Then he drilled the hole.  No cutting.  Screwed the screw in.  Then screwed a cap onto the screw.  No stitches.  No gauze.  I was in the chair for less than 30 minutes.  Now it has to heal for 4 months.  Letting the bone and screw become one.  After the bone has filled all in, they will take the cap off and put the tooth on.  Pretty cool!!  The area is sore and aches.  But my biggest problem is with my RA.  Just my immune system.  Sooo..... even though my implant went fairly easy............... it kicked my butt!  I went to work Tuesday morning, but was heading home by dinnertime.  Then I was home still on Wednesday.  I am feeling much better today and ready to say.................  EASY PEASY!!

changes......

So many changes!  This weekend and also last weekend!!  Mom and Dad came up and helped us a LOT. Thank you! Thank you!!  And am I ever excited!  We put in a new front door and screen door.  Funny to be so excited about my screen door! (The screen disappears up into the top of the door.)  Then this weekend they took out the door in the kitchen.  I can't believe how much warmer my house is without the wind hole there.  I have high hopes that my electric bill will be going down.  Now Roger needs to trim out my front door.  And then he is going to make me a pantry in my kitchen where the other door was.  Just sooooooo excited!!

And to top it all off...... our girls came home this weekend too.  We are H.A.P.P.Y!!!!!  (And then they will be home again in two weeks!!  We are having family pictures taken. )  HAPPY days!!!!

Happy 22nd Birthday Mishi!!

blessed.....

Do you ever have one of those times where you are thinking you are really blessed?  That is me right now!  As my girls have been growing up and going out on their own, I say a lot of prayers hoping that someday they really do well on their own.  On their own meaning they don't need anyone to take care of them.  Roger and I have always told them that they can be ANYTHING they want.  Seems the luck ran with Michele since she moved to Topeka..... BUT, today is Jessica's day!!!  I'm VERY proud to say that Jessica was offered and she has accepted a new job today.  She starts in 2 weeks.  AND....... is accepting a very substantial pay raise $$$$$$.  Way to go Jessica!!!  Your Dad and I are so VERY proud of you and just love you to pieces. Congratulations!!! (TOLD YOU that those degree's would pay off!!)

story of my life....

Sometimes I wonder.... do people really read this?  Do they believe me?  I mean, sometimes my stories even seem to amaze me.  Can all of this really happen?  Well..... it does!  No... they didn't show up at my front door.   No I didn't meet them, BUT I did see them in the Wal-Mart parking lot this afternoon in little old Hays Kansas.  I did have to ask Jessica if she knew who they were.  And I did have their name kind of mixed up.  Jessica & Michele don't listen to this kind of music.  Gabe does.  Papa Roach...... what a name of a band!!  Way to wild for me!! :-)  Someday I need to start an autograph book!! What memories I'd have!
