..................

Well..... Michele thought she was out of the woods. She was happy because she didn't catch the bug from Jessica. Well..... she didn't. BUT she did come home Friday sick! Apparently with her staying up late studying for finals, then having the flu on Tuesday and Wednesday, she got run down and ended up with a bacterial infection. Was pretty sick when she came home after going to the doctor. Pretty well just slept all weekend. She did go back to Hays tonight to work for a couple days before she comes home for Christmas holiday break. We hope that with the weather forecast Jessica will be able to make it home too. But at least if not, she can spend the holiday with Gabe and his family. Busy week! Glada and Audrey are suppose to spend Christmas afternoon with us if the weather allows. And then on Saturday we will be having the Kaler Christmas.

Quick update tonight.

~Uncle Dwight had a pacemaker put in yesterday and has been moved out of ICU. He will then be moved to rehab to help him get stronger and ready to go home. We pray that he stays well!

~Poor Char! Mom took her to have an x-ray this morning as her hand was looking pretty nasty. Apparently she hit it pretty good somewhere, as it is broke. YES BROKE! Poor thing! We hope that it heals fast and they can keep her pain under control. Love you Char!!!!!

Happy BiRThdAy!!!!!!

Prayers.....

Short n sweet...... Please keep our families in your prayers. Roger's Uncle Marvin has passed away today and my Uncle Dwight is in critical condition. Both their families are needing extra prayers to make it through this difficult time.

SnOw DaY!

Well the storm HAS arrived! They were calling for it..... but sometimes they just don't get it right. Well.... this time they are getting close. At 5:15 this morning my boss called. Said she checked the road conditions. Schools were closed. And she wasn't driving! Then she added... "And I don't think you need to be driving in either". What a boss!

SNOW DAY!!!!!

We are still fighting that bug that is visiting us, but doing better. Roger's is still in his head. (hehe .... I've always said that) And mine is still in my chest/head. Gosh darn it! Jessica is also still fighting her's, but is doing better too. Friday we leave for Topeka. Gabe is graduating from Washburn University. Going to be a quick trip. But just important that we be there. We kind of like him......hehe

Uggggg!

This has to probably be the longest week! Let's say we taught Jessica well. She shares well! I know... I know... I told her to come on home for Thanksgiving even when she said she was sick. But that is okay. The things we do for our children. Jessica...Roger....Corina....Jenny....Taylor....~ that is the list.(So far) The list of who has been sick this last week. Thank goodness it is the weekend!!!!

~Jessica.... we are so glad you came home! REALLY! We had such a nice time!!!! You make us smile. Maybe next year Gabe will be able to go to Black Friday with us!

Black Friday.....

Our annual black friday went without a hitch again this year. Michele was in our bedroom door singing "Good morning to you....." at 2:55 am. We left at 3:15am, got gas and was in Wal-Mart at 4:00am. The goal was the 32" tv. YES!!!! We got the tv's! Roger and I got one for our family room. Jessica decided she wanted to combine her G&G Kaler Christmas present with Mom&Dad's. And also got a tv. Then right at the very last minute..... Michele decided she wanted to buy herself one. Later we found out that Gabe would have liked to have had one, but it was a little late. Stinks to be him. Sorry Gabe! We had fun keeping in contact with Jenny, Taylor & Haylee in Wichita. They first thought that they wanted the tv too and we were all going to try to get one.... then talk to the other city before we let any one of them go. Taylor was SOOOOOOO much fun! Maybe next year we can shop all together.

GoBble gOBbLe.....

This year Thanksgiving was Grand! The bad thing was that Jessica was sick.... DARN it! She drove all the way home to be sick. I thought this picture says it all...........

This is what a Grandma having fun looks like.......

She does have to work Monday and Tuesday, but is home this weekend and then Tuesday night thru the weekend. Tonight Roger and her are watching Shrek 3. Yes...... Shrek 3! Silly kids!

Family minus one....

This afternoon Roger, Michele and I went to Hays to get grocery's. One of the places on our list was Vanderbilts. Roger needed to pick up his work boots that they had ordered for him a couple weeks ago. I had decided that it was time for me to get new boots. And while there...... Mishi decided that she wanted a pair of boots as part of her Christmas. How funny.... Roger sure got a kick out of this. Been a very long time since we had bought boots for Mishi. We only wish that Jessica had been here for our day. So this is our family picture...... minus one.........

~ps...... the little boots are..... me :-)

Friday....Friday....Friday.....

Yeah! It is FRIDAY! And what a beautiful Friday at that. Especially for in November. 80 degrees here in western Kansas. What will the winter be like????

Not really much to catch everyone up with......... but here it goes......

~Michele has had a pretty bad cold. Felt pretty miserable the middle of the week and had to miss work for two days. Tonight when I talked to her on the phone, it sounded like she is still pretty stuffed up, but feeling better. She is going out with some of her friends tonight for supper and a movie. Just taking it easy and hanging out I guess.

~Jessica.....well, she was disappointed this week. She found out she did not get that job. But did make it to the last two. Just really broke her heart. But as we told her..... there is a reason. And someday she will be glad it didn't work out. (I know Jess... but really, you will believe it happened for a reason.) I just got off the phone with her. Her and Gabe are "going out" tonight. To be young! I don't think I'd have the energy anymore.

~Roger and I...... work, work, work. This weekend is a cleaning, scrapping weekend for me. Then I hope to work on Charlene's Xmas present...hehe. Roger has a long weekend of work ahead for him and then on Sunday we will be going back to his Mom's to finish putting up the fence for Bucky.

To all............... Have a great weekend!!!

BeAuTIfuL!

What a BEAUTIFUL day! Got all the windows open and the air is so fresh and clean! Just love these kind of days. Roger left this morning for his Mom's. Him, Michele and I went there yesterday afternoon and started putting up a fence for Bucky with Audrey. He went back today to hopefully finish it. Michele and I have been pretty busy ourselves here at home. We are in the middle of making bierocks and beef/cheese pockets. They smell SO good. But she is already deciding that maybe next time we will pay someone to make them for us. Just a lot of work. As I'm on here, she is studying for a couple test she has tomorrow.

I want to say Congrats to my cousin Penny!!! Her daughter Heather had a baby girl early this morning. SO EXCITING!!!! Penny..... you are going to be a wonderful Grandmother! Spoil away!

Happy HaLLoWeeN!

First of all I'd like to tell everyone to have a safe and Happy Halloween!! And that is all about that! hehe Halloween has never been a favorite for me or my girls! They were just never much on candy to begin with, so dressing up on a cold night getting candy never appealed to them. Lucky me! But to everyone else...... be safe!

Roger is working today. And Michele is on her way home to visit. Really she wants me to help her learn how to make bierocks and also beef pockets. Guess we will be doing some cooking. I also REALLY need to clean my house and then get busy on my paper bag albums. I'm on a mission to get them done so I can broaden my horizons. I'm then moving to "make" Charlene's Christmas present. And something that I have not done before. When I get it done.... I will post some pictures. I'm guessing she is going to LOVE it!

Jessica and Gabe are dressing up for Halloween. Jessica is dressing up as a 50's girl and Gabe is going to be a vampire. Can't wait to see some pictures! You two have loads of FUN!

Update on Jessica's job interview.... She went back in again the middle of the week for a informal visit. She is still in the running as of right now. They are to call her either way, but we have hopes that she will be getting that call soon for the last interview before they choose who they want to give the job too. Keep your fingers crossed!!!

As for all the rest of the family..... everyone's health is doing well. Kind of scary out there with H1N1. Jessica is fine now, thank goodness! Everyone just keep washing... washing... and washing!

Have a GREAT weekend!

Whew.........

Has this weekend ever been BUSY! Michele and I are in Topeka visiting Jessica. What fun we have had. We shopped till we dropped! And I'm not kidding either...hehe. Michele wanted "bonding time", well.... she got it! The girls are both asleep right now. Which is where I really should be. But for some silly reason I just can't get to sleep. I'm guessing I've had way too much caffeine today. You would think I'd learn. Seems as you get older it bothers you more and more. Anyways..... what fun we have had! When Michele and I leave to head west, we will be making a detour thru Manhattan. Mom and Dad are needing us to pick up some cabinet for them. Then we will meet them in Hays and they will take it from there. I will drop Michele off at her house and then go on home. We always have a GREAT time visiting, but I will be ready to sleep in my own bed! Then back to work on Monday. And YEAH!!! Tuesday is my day off! I'm loving it!

...................

Was just wanting to check in with everyone. All is well! Just busy! But the days go by faster when you are busy, so that is okay. The new job is going well. My brain is not feeling so overwhelmed. This is my first week of 4 day 10 hour work week. I'm guessing it will take me a while to get used to the schedule, but am really starting to enjoy it. Tuesdays will be my "day off", so today was the day. It sure was nice to have time to get the errands and stuff done. I went to the doctor, did a little shopping, visited with some friends, washed some cloths and even gave Jorge a bath. What a productive day!

Friday when I get off work I'm picking up Michele and we are heading for Topeka. Guess the girls planned some bonding time and Xmas shopping. And they asked me to join them! Yeah!! Can't wait! Jessica is feeling much better! She is laughing now because her boyfriend has been sick and he thinks nobody is as sick as him...hehe. (What a man!) And of course she is not even going close to him. I told her I agreed that she stay away, but to at least be nice. She thought she was going to die too when she had H1N1.......

Glada is doing well. Last Wednesday Bucky "ran away from home". But did come back on Saturday. I'm guessing that now they will probably have to keep him pinned up so he doesn't run.

My family is also staying well. Mom and Dad are keeping Char out of the stores. Good thinking! The flu is EVERYWHERE!!! Really kind of scary.

I almost forgot..... Jessica had a job interview this morning!!! She is so EXCITED!!!! The job is for Assistant Marketing Director/Business Development for Simon Malls. They told her they started with 60 applications and interviewed 8 applicants. She got the call this afternoon that she has made the cut to 4. So now she takes a profile test and they choose 2 from that. The last two will then have another interview they have to go thru. She was also told that she was the only one to have not only a marketing degree but also her business degree. And she is also the only one that has property management experience. Keep your fingers crossed!!!!

Change is Good!

~I got thru my first week at my new job!! Yea! BUT, my brain hurts! I didn't know that a person could force so much into their head! Hopefully next week will be much better. It's not that I don't like it.... I do. But I still hope that I can start remembering more as the days go by. Especially after my brain gets a short break this weekend. Next week I will work all five days. After that I will start working my 4 day/10 hour days. I CAN'T wait for that!!!!!! Tuesdays will then be my day off.
~Snow.....Can you believe it???? Suppose to snow. This seems so early this year. It does not even feel like summer should be over with. And we really didn't get that hot. Kind of scary! Sure makes you wonder what the winter will be like. Wonder if we will have a nasty winter. Been such a long time since we've had a winter with lot of snow and nasty weather. Even Jorge is cold! Tonight he was snuggling with Michele under the afghan. I still have never heard about a dog wanting to be covered up. Silly dog!!
~Cold outside.....scrapping inside!!! :-)This weekend I'm working on an Baby Boy paper bag album. Then I'm needing to get a little organized!!!! I have four albums that I'm needing to get working on. I have the paper for two of them, but need to decide what I need to still buy for the others. I think Michele and I are planning a road trip in a couple weeks for Topeka. Michele is wanting to go "bond" with her sister and she has invited me to tag along. A little Christmas shopping (now that sounds funny) and also some scrapping shopping.

~Hope everyone has a great weekend! I know I plan on it!!!!

Fun Fun......

~This weekend has been so much fun! Jessica, Michele and Jenna (Jessica's roommate the last 2 yrs) got here Friday night around 11pm. Then yesterday morning we hung around the house for a short time and then went to Hays for the day. Lunch at Thirsty's..... a massage at Heavenly Bodies.....then SHOPPING! We had such a grand time. I still can not believe that my baby is 20!
~I am sad that Jessica will be leaving tomorrow to head back to Topeka. It always seems like her visits are so short. Then she wants to visit and do so much when home, that it is always so busy. And not easy making everyone happy when she can not get everything fitted into her short weekend. But they do grow up and do have their own lives. So now I'm thinking we have reached the point in our lives that parent's are suppose to hit. The point that we need to find more time to go visit her! Guess Roger and I need to sit down and schedule a visit........ :-)

BuSY tiMeS!

~This week is kind of busy~ I'm not sure if I'm coming or going. :-) ~ First of all just trying to get done what needs to at work. Plus also doing the job of someone who is on vacation....... Friday is my last day at my current job. But I'm getting there. Then also trying to get done all of the pre-employment stuff you have to do before starting a NEW job. YEAH!!!!
~Jessica will be home Friday night!!! This Saturday is Michele's 20th birthday. We have a "girls" day planned. Shopping, dinner and a MASSAGE!!! Michele of course will be joining us for this...hehe. But she will be staying in Hays as there is a party planned for her. They sure do grow up fast!! My BABY is going to be 20! I just can't believe that!
~Roger was down to see Glada on Saturday. She is having troubles with her pickup so he traded with her. Hopefully they can get the problem figured out. She is starting to feel better as she is not doing chemo anymore. They said it will take a week or so to get the drugs out of her system. After that she will feel much better again and will be able to enjoy being at home and not uprooted. So that will be good.
~HAVE A GREAT DAY!!!!!!

Tuesday, September 22, 2009

Jessica....

Jessica is feeling MUCH better today! She only worked half a day yesterday, but did work the whole day today. Tonight she is very tired, but feels good. THANK GOODNESS!! Hopefully nobody else gets this yucky stuff!

Sunday, September 20, 2009

Glada.....

~Audrey brought Bucky to our house this afternoon. Glada was not feeling up to the trip. If she feels up to it later, then they will be heading to Hays. Otherwise they will be going in the morning. Glada has her lab draw at 9 am and then they see Dr.Iqbal. They will then find out if she will be getting chemo on Tuesday or not.

Jessica.....

~Jessica is feeling much better today. Just a little weak still. She will be trying to go to work in the morning for half a day. Then hopefully she will make it back to all day on Tuesday. Only bad news is her roommate, Allison, thinks she is getting sick. Darn!

It's A Ummel PARTY!!!!! 2009

Exciting NEWS!....

My ExCItiNg NEWS!!!! Yesterday I gave my two weeks notice at work. I applied and GOT a new job. It will still be in a hospital but I will have to drive in a different direction. I'm SOOOOOOO excited!!! More $$$$$ and the best part~~~~~~~~ a four 10 hour day work week!! YEA!!!!!!!

Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.

Sickies update.......and others :-)

Updates tonight on the sickies..........

~Glada is at home for the weekend. Since having her chemo on Tuesday....she has been wiped out! Been a pretty rough week. Before she left Hays this afternoon she ended up having to go in and get some IV fluids from getting dehydrated. Vicki was in Hays for a funeral on Tuesday and visited for awhile. She will get her shots both Saturday and Sunday to help keep her white cell count up. Then hopefully she will be able to get her chemo again on Tuesday.
~Jessica is starting to finally feel better this evening.. She has been feeling pretty bad herself. I think we are on the upwards bound. Her breathing is getting easier and she doesn't sound so out of breath when you talk to her. Thank goodness! I was thinking I was gonna have to head that direction. (Even thou Roger kept telling me to sit sill. That he didn't need me sick too. ) From Jessica's mouth..... "I don't think I have EVER felt this bad before!"

Others........
~Michele is in Broken Bow Nebraska for the weekend. One of her roomates is from there. All the girls but one who live in their house went for the weekend. Sounds like they have lots of fun planned!
~Roger and I are leaving early in the morning for Wichita. It's a Ummel Party!!!! Before we go meet the family we plan on getting some shopping done. Was I surprised when he said he wanted to go with me! Hope he isn't getting sick! :-) Oink oink! (sorry Jessica.... I couldn't resist!) I hope to get pictures downloaded sometime Sunday....so keep checking back!

H1N1.......

As I am writing this post I really feel helpless. Jessica is across the state and has the H1N1 flu. What does a Mom do? Right now she is confined to home for the next 5 days. And can NOT leave or go back to work till her cough is completely gone. Hopefully her roommate will keep a good eye on her since she has already been around Jessica. Gabe (Jessica's boyfriend) is staying away!!! I would too! haha ......But being the Mom I sure do wish we lived closer to her so that she would have someone to wait on her till she is feeling stronger. So as of now I'm here and she is there. If she would get worse....OF COURSE I will be heading that way. That is what Mom's do!!!! Obviously Jessica and Gabe won't be meeting us in Wichita this weekend for the Annual Ummel Reunion. What fun we will have!!! Can't wait to post pictures next week of the family.

Chemo....

Just an update to say that Glada did get her Chemo today. Roger has not talked to anyone today, but Audrey did email Jessica and Michele and told them.

Sunday, September 13, 2009

Correction....

I think I was wrong in a previous post. I said Glada was getting her labs done everyday and then an injection. Roger thinks it is this........ She got her labs drawn on Monday and then since her white cell count was low she got a shot for 5 days to help bring it back up. He is not sure if she is getting the labs everyday. She WILL have her labs drawn tomorrow. If her white cell count is up then she will be able to get chemo on Tuesday. If not....she will get her shots again. ( Are we confused or what???? ) Hang in there with us! Eventually we will get it together. Maybe not soon.....but someday! :-)

HaPpY Grandparents DaY!

Happy Grandparents Day to all the wonderful Grandparents in the world!!!!

"House arrest"

Glada's white cell count is low. She is having her labs every day and then getting an injection to help bring her white cell counts back up. If you plan to visit her and have a cold or anything...... please stay away.

Back to work :-(

Roger and I both took advantage of the Labor Day holiday and took a couple extra days off from work to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I do think we got LOTS of stuff done "around the house". Too bad we don't have some more days at home. Got lots more to still do. Oh wells..... got to make the money to pay for the home improvements. But it is time get get back to a schedule. We went to bed at 11pm last night. I got back up at 2am this morning. Roger got up at 4:30am. Just couldn't sleep. By 7am this morning I had a couple loads thru the washer and dryer, watched a movie and had scrapped a couple hours. We also had already ate breakfast too. CRAZY! Is this what happens when you are getting older???

Jorge is also ready for us to get back to work. This was him tonight while he was beating up his bed.....had to take a break!!

Monday, September 7, 2009

Happy!!!!

Happy Anniversary!!! Today is Roger and mines 24th Anniversary. Time sure has flown. Just does not seem like it has been that long. Sometimes a person can really make you mad, but then you can't be without them. Think I'll keep him around......... :-)

Jorge......

Jorge is feeling so much better after his surgery. We still have to give him pain medicine, but showing improvement each and every day. For some reason we really love this dog!! Roger had asked me to buy a ball for Bucky to play catch with. I found this one which makes noises. It goes...... knock, knock, knock, knock.......... hammer, hammer, hammer, hammer...... boing, boing, boing, boing. Luke was scared of it, but Bucky and Jorge like it. And it seemed that Jorge liked it the most.....he was even willing to fight for it with Bucky. Had Bucky buffaloed. Jorge won. Silly dogs!!!

Wednesday, September 2, 2009

2 down.........

Glada had her second round of chemo yesterday. She said they only gave her one medicine this time so she wasn't as tired after it like last week. The doctor has already changed their plans..... She will have next week off and then do two weeks of chemo. One week off and then two weeks of chemo. One week off and then her LAST two weeks of chemo. (Unless plans change......)

Saturday, August 29, 2009

Weekend......

Well.....the weekend is more than half over. DARN! Yesterday after work I went to Mom and Dad's. They had a virus on their computer and needed a little assistance. At the same time I was there, Jessica was on her way home for the weekend. Then when I came home I stopped in Hays and picked up Michele. First thing this morning Jessica and I went to Hays to pick Jorge up. Poor little guy had his tonsils out. NO JOKE! Everyone says....."I didn't know they took tonsils out of dogs". Well, they do. As the vet said, it was the last resort. Poor little guy has just been sick so much. So.......the whole family is home. :-) Then this afternoon I made another batch of salsa. YUM!

Tomorrow I plan on getting some washing and some scrapbooking done. The girls also want to learn how to make beef and cheese pockets. For dessert we are gonna have apple cobbler. Gabe's Mom Lena made it and sent some home with us. What a wonderful lady! How did she know the fastest way to Roger's heart is thru his stomach. Then in the evening Glada and Audrey will be bringing Bucky back for the week. Glada is doing ok. Just having some "morning sickness". (That is how she explained it to Roger)

Hopefully tomorrow will go.........slow! Got LOTS to get done!!!!!

Susie homemaker......

HAHA.....I know I know. Suppose to be happy homemaker, but since I'm Susie I can change it if I want to.

This weekend seemed to be busy for the whole family. Not only the girls, but Roger and I too. Our three day weekend turned into LOTS of work. Roger worked in our wash room putting up new bead board. Also framing in the back door. I worked in the bathroom. (We won't tell you that we started the bathroom before Michele graduated High School.) All that matters is that we are getting closer to getting it finished.

On Saturday while Roger was doing his handy work, I was canning. This was the first year we planted a garden. Well......we planted it a little late, but is now getting the fruits of our labor. Just about time! Everyone else's is just about done. Until now we have really enjoyed getting cucumbers and tomatoes from Glada and Audrey's garden. Theirs did really well this year. So far all I had canned was dill pickles and also bread n butter pickles. On Saturday I decided to try salsa. OH YEAH!!!! Tastes pretty good if I didn't say so myself. We also had gotten some cabbage from a lady I work with. Homemade cole slaw. Roger really liked it. But I want to try to find the recipe for Kentucky Fried Chickens cole slaw. YUM YUM! On Sunday Audrey and Glada brought us more tomatoes and cucumbers.....so tomorrow after work I'm making more bread n butter pickles and going to try pasta sauce. We will let you know how that turns out.

Mishi..... Road Trip

Michele and two of her friends went on their "Road Trip". They spent Friday and Saturday night in Topeka with Jessica. On Saturday they went to Kansas City..... Worlds of Fun and an Royal's game. Sounded like they had a blast! They used Gma and Gpa Kaler's GPS, so that helped them from getting lost like last year. The roller coaster ride was better too! No STUCKS!!!! haha

1 DOWN......7 to go!

Glada got her picc line put in yesterday. Today she had her first round of chemo. She told Roger that it went well. She will have her next chemo next week. Then will have 3 weeks off. Two weeks of chemo and 3 weeks off. She will do this until she does 4 rounds.

Friday, August 21, 2009

TGIF!!!!

Thank goodness it's FRIDAY!!! I only worked 3 days this week, but I'm sure it was still the longest. This morning I had an doctors appt. Roger and I both took the day off and plan on a long weekend. After my appt we picked up a few things at Wally World. Then headed home for just a lazy afternoon. We hope to get a few things done around the house before we both go back to work on Monday.

Michele and 2 of her friends headed for Topeka after Michele got off work today. They will be spending some time with Jessica tonight and going to Kansas City tomorrow. Worlds of Fun and then an Royal's game. Hopefully she won't get stranded on a ride like she did last year. We do however have her directions down pat...... she borrowed Gpa's GPS!!! No getting lost this year! That should give them some extra time. Now if we could guarantee she won't run over any guys driving motorcycles.......

Other updates.....

Yesterday we went to Great Bend for Bonnie's funeral. What an emotional day! Lonnie has had a special place in our hearts for MANY years! We hope that he can stay tough during this sad time in his life. Tracy's Mom went home over the weekend and is doing okay too.

Uncle Dwight's surgery went well. I'm not sure exactly what they did, but do know they put a stint in a stint for a blockage. He also had some other issues that they will be watching very closely. But right now is doing okay.

And LaDonna is still waiting for some tests results to come back the end of the week to determine what kind of Chemo they will use.

Wow! Too many sicknesses!!!! I pray that everyone whom I've listed and anyone else who is having health issues......that God keeps an special eye on them.

Chemo

Dennis, Vicki , Kim, Kathryn and Teagan visited Glada on Saturday. After visiting with Dennis, Glada has decided to do the Chemo. She will have her picc line put in next Monday and will start Chemo on Tuesday afternoon. I'm guessing she will then learn what drugs they will be using and if she will have Chemo every week or every other week.

Audrey told Michele that Aunt Eunice is still at the farm but will be going home tomorrow. Glada is going to be staying at the farm and Audrey will be going there on Friday after she gets off work. They will then go back to Hays on Sunday afternoon.

Friday, August 14, 2009

Do you ever wonder?

Sometimes do you ever wonder? Wonder why? I know God always has a reason. But Why??

Roger talked to Lonnie last night. He is doing as well as can be expected. His Mom's funeral is Monday morning. BUT, Lonnie's mother in law was put into the hospital Wednesday morning. It sounds like it was touch and go for a while, but as he said, she is feisty. She is doing better as of last night.

We also ask that you keep my Uncle Dwight in your prayers today too. He was having chest pains and is scheduled to have surgery today. He has previously had a stint put in so they are thinking that is blocked. And that he maybe has a blockage in his neck. We hope he does well today.

While I'm at this......... Also keep my cousin LaDonna in your prayers. She is battling breast cancer. She has had two surgeries and will start her treatments soon. Sounds like she is ready to kick the Cancer in the ass! Sorry I used that word....but it needed to be said!

I know I seem to be VERY needy today! But prayers are needed!!!!

Tuesday, August 11, 2009

Bless her........

Today we are very sad. Lonnie's (who is a VERY close friend of Roger's) Mom died this afternoon. Bonnie had been at KU Med Center for about year and a half. Being paralyzed from the waist down, she had problems with major bedsores that they could not get to heal. Many surgeries later they thought that she was finally getting closer to coming home. I won't go into great detail, but things just went for the worse. She was one special lady!!!! Tonight please say a prayer for Lonnie, Tracy and the rest of their family.

Oncologist

~Today Glada had her appt with the oncologist. Audrey, Roger and I went with her. The stage of her Cancer is 1B. Which is very early!!! What this means.......the biopsy showed her Cancer was contained in the lobe that they removed. It is not in her lymph nodes.(We knew this already.) What makes it B, not A........B is if the Cancer was over the size of 3cm. Hers was measured at the widest point 5cm. Basically they "recommend" what she should do. Then she decides what she "wants" to do. Even if they think they removed all of the Cancer, there could still be those unwanted little cells floating around. Their recommendation is Chemo. Approx 4 sessions that will either be one every week OR one every other week. This will depend on what meds they use. She now has about a week to decide on what she will be doing. If she decides to go ahead and do the chemo, she will first need a picc line put in so they have easy access to her veins. Then they will start the chemo the next week. She is at 3 weeks out from her surgery. They like to start chemo approx 4-6 weeks out. One of the things she wants to do is talk to Dennis before she makes any decisions. As he had Cancer many years ago and has went thru radiation and chemo both. I'm sure he can help her far more on this decision than we can.

~When the decision is made, I will let you know.
~Plans right now.......Glada is at Hays with Audrey. She has a couple Doctor's appt.s tomorrow. Then on Wednesday Audrey and Glada will stop by here and pick up Bucky and head for the farm. I think they have plans on taking a few days to themselves and relax. Going to make some pickles. :-) Then Aunt Eunice is suppose to be coming and staying with Glada at the farm next week.

Friday!

Tomorrow is FRIDAY!!!! YEA!!!! After being on vacation last week.....this week has GOT to be the longest ever! One of the ladies in our office is off today and tomorrow, so I'm covering her shift. I usually work either 7:30-4, 7-3:30 or 6:30-3. But tomorrow I work 8:30-5. So I'm SURE tomorrow will be the longest day, but that is okay. At least I don't have to work those hours everyday as she does. Guess being there the longest gets the better hours.

Roger talked to Glada last night. It sounds like Dennis will not be able to go to her oncologist appt. with her, so Roger and I are going to. I'm sure that tomorrow afternoon Glada and Audrey will be here to pick up Bucky. He seems to have settled in. You just can't let him run loose or he will run. He sure does wag his tail when I pull in the drive after work. And Roger takes him for a walk every evening too. Even Luke and Jorge are getting used to having him around. Now we just need to teach Roger to make sure he gets that darn gate closed.....haha

Oncologist

Glada has her Doctor appt. with the Oncologist on Monday.....1 pm. She has invited Dennis to go to the appt. with her as he had Cancer many years ago. Hopefully they will get many questions answered as to what stage the Cancer is and what the next steps will be. She then sees the Doctor who removed the lobe /Cancer on Wednesday.

Glada.......

Bronchoalveolar Carsinoma........Yesterday afternoon Audrey picked up Glada and Bucky. They went home to the farm. Tomorrow they will be bringing Bucky back here for the week and Glada will be staying at Hays with Audrey. She still has not heard when her appt. with the oncologist is, but is going to call them on Monday to see. Her appt with the Doctor who did the surgery is on the 12th. Right now the plans are for her to stay with Audrey till the appt, then sometime after that Aunt Eunice is going to go stay with her for about a week at the farm. I'm sure Aunt Eunice will pamper her!!!! As you know, plans can and probably will change. Guess we will see what the oncologist says......

Our time in Topeka with Jessica went so fast, but we got LOTS of work done. She is now moved and unpacked. Plus we got a little shopping done while waiting to check her out of her other townhouse. We got home around 8:30pm Wednesday night after picking Glada up at Hays. Then on Thursday Jessica and I took Glada to her Doctors appt. in Ness City. Yesterday we hung out here at home. After Audrey picked Glada up, Jessica and I then went to Hays and picked Michele up. The next leg of our trip was Grandma and Grandpa Kalers. We visited with them....also Char and Aunt Sharon. Gma fixed us a wonderful supper!!! THANK YOU GRANDMA!......our next leg..... The Blaine Younger Band......was playing at the Rush County Fair. Just love his music! What a voice. We were lucky enough to not get rained out, but did have to drive thru some rain and wind to get home. Tomorrow is my LAST day of my "vacation". Then back to work. MAN! I hate it when that has to happen. Hopefully later today or tomorrow I will get some pictures posted of our last week........

Biopsy......Cancer

Glada's biopsy results came back today. It showed Cancer. It was all contained in her upper right lobe. The surrounding tissues in the lobe were cancer free as was her lymph nodes. Her next step will be to see the Cancer Doctor. That Doctor will be deciding what the next step will be. She is back in Hays with Audrey till Wednesday evening. At that time Jessica and I will be picking her up and taking her to our house. Then on Thursday she has an appt. with her primary Doctor in Ness City. We will be taking her to that appt and then she will stay with us till Audrey gets off work on Friday. They will then go back to the farm for the weekend with Bucky.

We got Jessica moved this weekend. All went well!!!! :-) After all the moving, they took me out to Boss Hog's BBQ for supper.....my birthday supper. (I'm 29 this year.....haha) Yesterday morning Roger, Michele and Jorge left for home. Jessica and I have started unpacking and have been cleaning her other townhome so we can check her out of it on Wednesday afternoon. Today we decided to take a little trip to Kansas City. What fun !!!! Good thing Donnell let us use her Garmin GPS system.

Resting well......

This is going to be the last update till probably next Thursday. Roger, Michele and I are leaving after work tomorrow for Topeka to help Jessica move. Roger and Michele will be home on Sunday. Jessica and I have both taken next week off for vacation. We will be unpacking and also getting her other townhouse cleaned up and getting her "checked out". Our previous plans of taking Glada to the Doctor on Wednesday have now been changed as we won't be able to get back to this side of the state till late Wednesday night.

We talked to Glada tonight and she sounded MUCH better. She didn't sound so out of breath like she was last night. It sounds like she got a lot of sleep today, which she needs to heal. She said she also got some small walks in. Audrey and her are going to come and get Bucky tomorrow afternoon and go to the farm for the weekend. Then they will be going back to Hays so Audrey can work next week and Bucky will be coming back up here to stay with us. The biopsy results are still not in. If they do call with the results I will post an update.

On our note...... We had a pretty good storm barrel threw here last night. High winds and hail. Roger and I have planted a garden for the first time. It WAS doing well as of last night, but not looking so good tonight. Our tomato plants are pretty torn up. My cantaloupe is shredded and my watermelon is probably not going to make it. On the good note, the cucumber plants look okay. The leaves on them are torn up, but that is all. Our hope was to learn to can. Spaghetti sauce, taco sauce, salsa...mmmmmmmm good! Guess we will see......

Bucky.....

Just in case anyone wants to know......... Luke is still in charge as of tonight! :-)

Dismissed!

Glada was dismissed from the hospital this afternoon. She is staying with Audrey the rest of week at Hays. Then we will see if she is up to heading to Arnold for the weekend. Next week she will go back to Hays and stay. If Jessica and I can get done what we need to in Topeka, we will hurry back home and then take Glada to Ness City on Wednesday for a doctors appt. I think after that she will be spending the rest of the week at our house. She is feeling much better. A little out of breath, but hopefully that will come in time. She has done well without the oxygen. Just needs to think and breath. When we left Audrey's house tonight Glada was sending her to Dillions for meds and some food.

We are STILL waiting for the results of the biopsy. They are to call Glada when they receive them. I still don't think they should be allowed to tell you they'll be back on a certain day if they were not sure they'd be back!

Tuesday Update......

Sorry this is so late. Roger and I had to go down to the farm to check on everything and also pick up Glada's meds.

Today they took Glada off oxygen. They have monitored her oxygen levels. Tonight she will also be off it to see how she does. She says there is a chance she might get out of the hospital tomorrow. If she don't get out tomorrow she is hoping for Thursday. Right now the plan is for her to stay in Hays with Audrey at least the rest of the week. And then if she is not ready to go home Ken and Janice said they would sit with her over the weekend so Audrey can come and get Bucky to the farm. Roger, Michele and I are leaving on Friday for Topeka. Jessica is moving.......... :-) Some things just can't be put off till later.

Everyone's big question......the test results. They are still not in. Sorry! We were told they would be back today. Guess not.

Monday Update.....

Glada is still in room #2207. When Roger talked to her tonight she was still waiting for the Doctor to come in for his visit today. Guess no news is good news. She told him that her throat was hurting and he said she sounded a little worse for the wear. BUT....considering what she has went thru the last few days, it is to be expected. Tomorrow is suppose to be the day...........The day she gets the results of her biopsy.

As I said before.....we are in charge of Bucky. Roger brought him here yesterday afternoon. We made him a pen next to Jorge's. But tonight when Roger got home I really fell for the puppy dog eyes wanting out. Now we need to make it clear....Roger said he just didn't think we should just let him loose. He thought Bucky would run. Well......he did. So then we had a chase on our hands, but Roger out tricked him and we had him on the leash before he knew what happened. We thought everyone would like to see how we decided to take charge of the situation........

We decided to let LUKE be in charge!!!!

We do want to say thank you to everyone for keeping Glada in your prayers. We hope to have good news to post tomorrow!! A lot of people have been keeping up with her thru this blog. It did take us a little while to figure out who is in Italy checking in.......Hey Denny!!!! Please be safe in your travels!

Until tomorrow...........

Update......

Glada was moved out of ICU early afternoon. If you'd like to call the hospital, the number is 785.623.2270 . They also have an toll free number which is 800.248.0073 . As of right now, her room is #2207. She is not allowed to get up out of bed by herself yet. If she does not answer the phone....the nurse forgot to put the phone in her reach.

She is starting to feel better as she is "bored" and "wants to go home". So please feel free to give her a call. I'm sure if she is not up to talking for long....she will let you know. We do not know how long she will be in the hospital, but I'm sure if will be at least a few more days.

Roger brought Bucky up from the farm and he is investigating his new home away from home. Audrey is at Hays now with Glada's cats. And Jon and Maxine are taking care of the farm for a few days for us. THANKS Jon and Maxine!!!!!

Update.....

Evening update from Audrey...... Glada is doing much better. They are limiting her food and drink intake to very little as they don't want to take the chance of anything going into her lungs. If she is a "good girl" this evening, they will be moving her out of ICU tomorrow.

Starting tomorrow I will only be updating once a day in the evening.

Update.....

3pm update from Vicki......Glada is doing much better. They removed the breathing tube. The nurses had her up and walking some. (They get to you fast!) She even got a few bites of jello down. Audrey was to be going in for the 4pm visit. If everything goes well tonight she will moved out of ICU and into a different "step down" area that her doctor uses tomorrow.

Grandma Ummel........

Ok....... I'm going to try to get this all right. And if I'm off a little, please bear with me as I will try to be as correct as possible ..................................................................................................... A few weeks ago the Doctors found a spot on Roger's Mom's right lung. After all the tests and results, they scheduled surgery for yesterday morning. She was to be at the hospital at 11am. At about 3:50pm they took her in. They found the spot and it was decided that they would remove her upper right lobe. Glada got out of surgery around 5:30pm and is in ICU. The Doctor told Roger, Vicki and Audrey that the results will be back on Tuesday. At that time they will know if she will need chemotherapy or radiation. So we are being VERY positive that they DID indeed remove it all. When we left the hospital last night their concern was that she still had a lot of blood coming out of the drain tube. At 1am this morning the hospital called and told Roger that they were taking Glada back into surgery. She was still losing too much blood. They found two spots that they fixed. She was going to be kept sedated thru the night.

The report from Vickie this morning..... Glada's color was much better. She was still on the breathing machine. They are planning on taking the tube out late this morning or sometime this afternoon. Audrey was to be there this afternoon. As of this typing I have no new information. When Roger gets off work today we will be putting up an additional fence so that we can keep Grandpa's dog Bucky here at our house. This will allow Audrey to take Grandma's cats to her house and then she can be there right at Hays with Glada. And she can also get to her job too. We are probably looking at least a week before Glada will be going home, but as you know.....only time can tell.

I do plan on keeping all family and friends updated by this site as we receive information. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to call Roger, Vickie or Audrey.

Hit N Run.....

On the afternoon of Sunday, July 5th.... Jessica was in her townhome packing. Her car was hit by a 16 yr old boy and then he drove off and left the scene of the accident. We got lucky because the neighbor seen the accident happen and knew the boy. So lets say....THEY are paying for this! YAH!!!!

July 4th......

My computer is going to be "down" for a few days. I've wanted Photoshop for some time now but we have not been able to get the software installed. So this weekend Michele has a friend coming home for the 4th of July holiday that is very good with computers. He is going to take a look and see what he can do. Michele will be bringing my computer back next Tuesday when she comes to WaKeeney for Physical Therapy. Until then........................... Happy 4th of July! ENJOY!!!!!

Good news, bad news....Bad news, good news

Monday morning Michele had her check up on her knee. We have heard that she shouldn't take the chance and play sports. One wrong move could hurt it forever.....and it is not in good shape now. On Monday we were told....... It is our decision. Yes, it could hurt it forever. But you don't have to live in a glass house. If she stepped wrong it could hurt it in normal day activities. Sooooooooo........ this is what WE have decided~~~ She starts rehab on Monday. They will oversee her once a week. Most will be on her own and in her own time. When the knee is strong and everyone agrees, she can do whatever she wants. And if she wants to play basketball.....well, she is going for it..............

HEAT!!!

The last few days have been pretty TOUGH! But I can type about it now that it is OVER. Saturday we realized our air conditioner was not working properly. The unit would run but the fan outside would quit working. That would mean the unit heating up and then we would have to turn the who thing off. We made it thru Saturday okay....after all it rained most of the day. (3 inches) Sunday morning Roger oiled the unit and we made it to Monday morning. Monday afternoon the service man came and had to order a new motor which was to come in yesterday. It did.....but he was "too tied up" to get it put in. To say the least.....I'm enjoying my air tonight! I could not have made it in the "olden days". Bless them all who did.
